Drew Barrymore Tells Ellen Divorce Was Her “Worst Nightmare”

Actress Drew Barrymore has always been in the spotlight. She was born into Hollywood royalty as the next prodigy of the Barrymore family. From the time she was a young girl, she was thrust into celebrity, first in the iconic 1982 film E.T. the Extra Terrestrial when she was just 7 years old. By age 9, she was already partying at clubs like Studio 54, smoking cigarettes and consuming alcohol. By age 12, she was regularly smoking marijuana and snorting cocaine. She entered rehab at age 14 and even attempted suicide. It was all too much, too soon. But through all her various trials and tribulations, Barrymore recently told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that nothing was worse than divorce.

“It was just like my worst nightmare,” Barrymore said. “I so wanted to raise kids in this ultra-traditional way and do everything so the polar opposite of my experience.”

Barrymore had recently split from Will Kopelman after nearly four years of marriage. Although the divorce was amicable, it was difficult to end the relationship. The couple summed up their decision in a in joint statement. “Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.”

Life After Divorce

The end of any relationship can be extremely stressful. But sometimes it is necessary to move on and start over. Far too many people in Salt Lake City often stay too long in unhappy marriages. Some decide to never leave. Many are afraid of how to transition into life after divorce. But it does not have to be scary. Divorce is an opportunity for people to explore what truly makes them happy--whether it is a new relationship or engaging in activities they never had the chance to pursue.

Challenges & Obstacles

Divorce does bring its share of challenges--especially when it comes to children. Child custody and visitation are two of the most sensitive and complex issues concerning family law. Unfortunately, it can often get messy and ugly. When going through a divorce, it is important for both parties to always place a high priority on the safety, protection and happiness of their children.

The division of assets and property can also present several challenges. In many marriages, both spouses often have joint accounts along with ownership of the home and cars. It is important to have a divorce attorney that can carefully examine your case and determine the best plan not only end the marriage, but to also ensure you are financially secure.
